Snoring / CPAP Alternatives
Snoring is no joke! In fact it’s usually part of a life-threatening medical condition called Sleep Apnea? When breathing is interrupted, blood oxygen levels drop. This creates oxygen free radicals and inflammation proteins which are linked to heart disease, stroke, diabetes, obesity, and high blood pressure, to name a few.
Sleep apnea interferes with good sleep because of the need to repeatedly awaken to open up a relaxed or blocked airway. These constant arousals prevent restful sleep. These people often experience excessive daytime tiredness, are prone to fall asleep while driving, and have problems with work and school performance.
Sleep apnea and snoring treatments include CPAP machines, surgery, and oral appliances (which opens the airway and positions the jaw forward). Experienced dentists work with sleep physicians to restore restful sleep and to save lives maybe yours!
People who can’t tolerate a CPAP device often insist on a simple oral appliance to help maintain an open airway during sleep. Often all it takes is a simple oral appliance to stop the snoring, control the sleep apnea, and finally get a better night’s sleep!
